The problem was that replace only replaces the first occurrence of a string and not all as is needed for this function.
tsconfig.json needed lib to be set to esnext or the replaceAll function won't be available…

TypeScript considers null and undefined as fine for all variable by
default. This patch enables `strictNullChecks`, which should cause
errors to be thrown as soon as a variable is null or undefined without
having it explicitly decleared for itself.[1]
